The Right Turf for A Shady Lawn

April 30, 2009 · Posted in gardening · Comment

It is your first time to consider doing some landscaping around your home and you find it a daunting task. What you should be considering first is the type of lawn that that fits your needs best.

Over the course of time, most probably due to the owner’s choice of more privacy or because of neglect, some lawns take on a shady outlook. What was once a sunny landscape has shut itself out from the rays of the sun with the growth of trees, plants and hedges.

There will be areas of heavy seclusion from sunlight. You would need turf grass that suits these conditions in these spots. Be aware there will be contention for nutrients, water and light in these areas which can put stress on the turf grass and limit their growth.

Shaded areas also attract people and this becomes problem because of compaction in these spots.

Varieties that are fine for shaded spots include fescues - the fine-leaf, creeping, sheep, hard and chewing’s are good fescues for really shaded spots. Areas that get moderate light might benefit well with certain types of bluegrass (Kentucky) and tall fescues (fine-blade types).

Plumbers have done a nice job as far as my bath area goes. I was amazed with the artwork that they did on the wall of my facilities. You would not believe it however I have recorded the making of my wash area. I am being bubbled up so much that I have been watching the video almost twice a day.

I was sitting in patio designed by my brother. He is an artist with international ideas. I was so happy and it is so relaxing that every day I would sit there and talk to my plants and water them. In fact my red Baby Austin car adorns a nearby room. Though it is almost basement however I go off and on to see and pamper my car.

Let us talk about the most likely attitude of the people towards plumbing. They think this is an easy task. However, it isnt so. After I have reworked on my bath area, my outlook has changed completely. It is quite a tough task and needs lots of skills.

Setting Your Garden For February

North February

February is an exceedingly trying month for the home gardener in the north central section of the country. The weather continues to keep him inactive as far as doing any actual gardening is concerned and he knows that there will be many weeks before the earth can be turned, seeds sown and plants set out in garden beds. He must be content to speculate, plan and prepare for the coming season.

February is a good month to get set for the gardening season. Now, rather than when the season begins is the time to check over garden supplies, seeds, tools and equipment. Tools should be examined for needed repairs, sharpening and the possibilities of replacements with new ones.

Power equipment should be gone over to be sure that it is in good working order. Overhauling can be done leisurely and with a certain amount of pleasure which would be absent if it is put off until the time comes when tools and equipment are actually needed to do garden work in spring.

These last few weeks of winter should be devoted to reading and studying plant culture and gardening practices. This can be almost as great a pleasure as active gardening itself.

Before beginning your garden consult one of the maps that certain books, magazines, agricultural bulletins, and seed catalogs print, showing temperature belts, or one of the weather tables showing the date of the last probable frost in each state. Find out who the best gardeners are quite near you, preferably by watching whose gardens seem to do best, and then boldly ask their advice on when to plant, which things do best, which things need special attention, and what kind of attention. Whether you are a beginner or a newcomer to a community, most of them will be quick to help.

By now you may be wondering whether gardening is not a lot of work. I cannot answer that one, because the word “work” means different things to different people. If you mean by work something disagreeable that requires a lot of effort to do but that you do in order to get paid money, I can only answer that gardening in order to make money, or even to save money, is hard work.
